January 12: Jerry Bonnell
"Astronomy Picture of the Day"
Each day a different image or photograph of our universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer', is how APOD's website is described. The site has over a billion views and has been translated into dozens of languages. The website has also been featured on CNN and is the basis of the book, 'The Universe: 365 Days'. Dr. Bonnell and APOD's co-creator, Dr. Robert Nemiroff, were awarded the Klumpke-Roberts Award for their work on APOD
Speaker: Dr. Jerry Bonnell is a Research Scientist at Univ. of Maryland and NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. He has his Bachelors of Science from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of MD. Dr. Bonnell's research interests wander across the electromagnetic spectrum, but since 1992 have focused on the time histories and spectral evolution of cosmic gamma-ray bursts.
The January 12 Lecture will be held online, via Zoom Webinar. All are welcome to attend this free event. Register when logging into the webinar.
